The Class 66 was a design evolution based upon the Class 59. The Class 66 was first ordered by EWS between 1996 and 1998. The Class 66 is built by EMD in London, Ontario, Canada and arrives in Europe via ship. EMD markets the Class 66 to other European nations as the Series 66.
EMD powers the Class 66 with its 710 series prime mover and equips them with a cab 'quiet package.' Listen and you shall hear a distinct two tone horn from the English, Welsh and Scottish (EWS) Railway
